Kiev will check information about the fire on the ship MSC MESSINA near Sri Lanka, which may have sailors from Odessa on board. It is reported by “Interfax-Ukraine”.

Foreign Minister Dmitry Kuleba instructed the embassies in India and Singapore to immediately check the situation, said Foreign Ministry spokesman Oleg Nikolenko.

According to the Seafarers Journal portal, the ship MSC MESSINA caught fire in the Sri Lanka region, and a 20-year-old sailor from Odessa died in the engine room. The incident happened on June 25, from that moment the crew remains without communication.

In early June, it was reported that the Indian Ocean was on the brink of environmental disaster due to a ship sinking off the coast of Sri Lanka, loaded with 25 tons of nitric acid.
