Batumi residents with the help of an excavator illegally mined almost 42 cubic meters of inert materials in the Chorokhi river

TBILISI, June 27 – Sputnik. Employees of the Department of Environmental Supervision have identified four facts of illegal mining in Adjara, the ministry said in a statement.

According to the department, the staff of the regional office of Adjara and Guria revealed two violations in Batumi and one each in the municipalities of Khelvachauri and Keda.

So, in Batumi, near the Chorokhi River, the townspeople with the help of an excavator illegally mined sand and gravel. A total of 42 cubic meters of inert materials were mined.

In the village of Charnali of the Khelvachauri municipality near the Chorokhi River, a citizen with an excavator illegally mined two cubic meters of sand and gravel.

The employees of the department drew up protocols on administrative offenses.

But in the village of Dologani, municipality of Keda, the violator illegally mined andesite-basalt and other building materials. As a result of illegal extraction of minerals and building materials, the damage to the environment amounted to 21,151 lari (more than 6,740 dollars).

Since this violation contains signs of a criminal offense, the case materials will be sent to the appropriate authorities for further consideration.
