The editor, writer and politician Xavier Folch died this Thursday at the age of 83, as confirmed by his family. Folch, born in Burgos in 1938, was a benchmark of cultural Catalanism during the Transition and was a member of the PSUC, being Member of the Catalan Parliament between 1980 and 1984.

In 1968 he started as an editor at Ediciones Ariel y in 1983 he created the publishing house Empúries, a label that joined Grup 62 in 1996, being appointed literary director of Edicions 62.

He chaired the Institut Ramon Llull between 2004 and 2006 and in 2003 he received the distinction of the Creu de Sant Jordi.
