In the center of Reims, the floods were particularly concentrated around Avenue Jean-Jaurès, affected for the third time in two weeks. In this location, “We have a phenomenon of runoff, of concentration”, declared the Prefect of Marne Pierre N’Gahane on BFMTV. But “Things are recovering and the storm cell is gradually shifting”, he assured.
“The phenomenon was very violent. All the water falls in 20 minutes and drains away in half an hour. Avenue Jean-Jaurès is a low point in the city and all the water flows there ” without being able to be absorbed, explained the mayor of Reims Arnaud Robinet. “The services of Reims and Greater Reims will meet on Wednesday to study the situation” and will meet the traders, he added, specifying “That in the long term, the development work (necessary to ensure that the water evacuates better, editor’s note) represent 15 million euros ”.
In the Somme, “Strong thunderstorm activity” Monday evening crossed the department from west to east, according to the prefecture, causing “Runoff floods” and the overflow of certain watercourses. The municipalities of Gamaches, Frettemeule, Maisnières, Poix-de-Picardie, Ponty, Boves, Saint-en-Amiénois or Maigneville are particularly affected. In Loeuilly, a campsite had to be evacuated and a dozen people sheltered in the village hall, details the prefecture in its report at 10:30 p.m.
The departmental fire and rescue service (SDIS) of the Somme has identified 130 interventions and 70 firefighters engaged, adds the prefecture in this situation.
In Beauvais, “Divers, dog handlers and drones equipped with thermal cameras” were mobilized during the night of Monday to Tuesday to find a person who would have fallen in Thérain, a tributary of the Oise crossing the city, announced the prefecture.
The storm “Flood” who “Parked in Beauvais between 10 p.m. and 11 p.m. this Monday” has resulted “Between 35 and 60 mm of rain locally”, according to the prefecture of Oise. “Nearly 600 interventions were initiated by the fire and rescue services, including 412 in Beauvais, 92 in Tillé and 57 in Auneuil”, municipalities adjoining Beauvais.
Several routes are “Impracticable” and “The floods also affected homes and public buildings”. “The Beauvais hospital in particular suffered significant flooding but without a power cut” and “A plane which was supposed to land at Beauvais was hijacked at Lille airport”, further indicated the prefecture.
