Turkey came to the tournament with the poster of being a passionate team and with a hook, because they knocked down France before the Euro. But the selection of Günes did not pass from a bad joke, lowered to the first of change without adding any points. The last to beat him was Switzerland, who accepted the exchange of blows and came out gracefully due to the good aim of their attackers and the best hands of Sommer, who celebrated his recent fatherhood with stops that gave for flashes and photos. Insufficient, in any case, to finish second in the group – Wales beat him for the goal – but enough to close the first phase with four points and probably pass the round as one of the best third parties.
Turkey started with force, knowing that there was little left to lose, overturned in an attack on boarding that he always solved with distant shots. Like that crooked Yilmaz or that other Ayhan, who put fear in the Swiss body, only stopped by the two hands of Sommer. He had, in any case, several worthwhile saves to the despair of Müldür, who stretched himself by the hair after achieving three kicks that scored a goal but that the Swiss goalkeeper spat with success.
The Turkish problem, however, was in their area, as the team broke in two with each retreat, apathy that explains their defensive hole and their depressing time through the tournament. That was discovered by Seferovic after a caracoleo on the balcony of the area, also a flat and crossed whip with his left foot that ended up in the net. Just as delicious was Shaqiri’s shot in another against, with the right and the square.
Little replied the dejected Turkey, turned off before time and only spurred on by the goal of Kahveci, another squad from outside the area. Nothing that Shaqiri would not suffocate with another goal – and a third assist from Zuber – also Xhaka with a shot to the post. So Turkey says goodbye and Switzerland awaits.
