Voluntary movement created in March 2020 to face the impacts of the pandemic in vulnerable populations of Rio de Janeiro, the União Rio Movement launches the campaign “Just missing you”. The action aims to encourage companies, entities and people to do financial donations and products to fight hunger.
“We need to keep civil society alert to the social problems aggravated by the pandemic, and the main problem at the moment is hunger. There are thousands of people in Rio de Janeiro in need of help, and it is important to maintain the amount of donations verified in 2020. We know that, at some point, the pandemic will pass, but the negative impacts that she will leave will take some time to be resolved”, says Daniella Raimundo, co-founder of União Rio.
The campaign’s opening piece is “Not to be short of food, only you”, which focuses on the donation of food baskets. The campaign will repeat this same message addressing other aspects, such as protection, solidarity, respect, hope and hygiene. There will be weekly insertions on União Rio’s social networks, on transmission lines by application and content in other media, in order to sensitize civil society to the need for permanent help to thousands of vulnerable people.
“Only with the permanent mobilization of society will it be possible to alleviate the suffering of thousands of people in the city and state of Rio de Janeiro”, says Daniella.
In these 15 months of operation, the União Rio Movement collected R$ 93.7 million in donations. With this money, 408 thousand basic food baskets were distributed, with a total of 5,487 tons of food and 1.1 thousand liters of hygiene and cleaning material. More than 1.6 million people were benefited in 237 communities in the city and state of Rio de Janeiro.
