Originally from Lot-et-Garonne, Joseph Cassant entered at the age of 16 the Cistercian abbey of Sainte-Marie-du-Désert, near Toulouse. Ordained a priest in 1902, a year before his death, he did not, according to his master of novices, “Nothing extraordinary except the extraordinary way he did ordinary things.” He was beatified by John Paul II in 2004.
