Then Collins recalled that Putin has denied involvement in cyberattacks launched from Russian territory to the US and which has downplayed human rights abuses in Russia.

The journalist ended up asking the president how he could be sure that Putin will change. To which Biden replied: “If you don’t understand that, you are in the wrong job.”

Biden and Putin held their first summit on Wednesday since the American became president last January at Villa La Grange, an 18th-century mansion in Geneva.
