Puigneró refuses to attend the dinner with King Felipe VI in Barcelona to which the Government has sent him

The Government intends to pave the steep road to recovery in the relationship between Catalonia and Spain, in this case in relation to the relationship between the Generalitat and the Crown, but setbacks are emerging. After the Government has agreed on Tuesday to send its Vice President and Minister of Digital Policies and Territory, Jordi Puigneró (JxCat), to the opening dinner of the XXXVI Meeting of the Circle of Economy, in which King Felipe VI will be present, Puigneró has refused to go.

The Government of Pere Aragonès, who will not attend either, It is planned that there will be representation of the Generalitat in the event, something unprecedented after the time of the ‘expresident’ Quim Torra, in which the Catalan executive was absent in the acts with the presence of the monarch. However, Puigneró has proposed that other members of the Government attend.

According to a statement from the Vice Presidency, Puigneró has told the Presidency that, if appropriate, delegate to other members of the Government attendance at dinner. The minister will attend the same Wednesday at the same time (7.30pm) to the Nit de les Telecomunicacions i la Informàtica, “as he had planned and committed,” adds the letter.

The fact that the Government wants to have any of its members at dinner is due, as explained by the Government spokesperson, Patrícia Plaja, to the fact that she does not want to lose the possibility of occupying the representative spaces that correspond to her, especially if there is an international presence. “We will not condition the Government’s agenda to anything that the king can do“, said Plaja, who has remarked that the executive is in favor of” occupying the spaces that are relevant for all Catalans, regardless of what Felipe VI does. “

It’s a major script twist, since the previous executive of Quim Torra did not attend any act that had the presence of the king. The last was at the beginning of March, when Felipe VI, together with the President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, attended the Seat’s 70th anniversary event and in which no member of the Government participated of Torra. “Neither I nor any other member of the Government will attend any act” in which the monarchy is present due, said Torra, to the “exceptional situation that Catalonia is experiencing.”

Puigneró does not participate in the Government press conference

Coincidence or not, the vice president Jordi Puigneró -main voice of JxCat in the Catalan executive- was supposed to participate in the Govern press conference this Tuesday, but at the last minute he has excused his presence “for urgent and inexcusable agenda reasons.” An absence that has raised suspicions.

Greater presence of the king in Catalonia

The king will preside over the opening dinner of the XXXVI Circle Meeting, in which tribute will be paid to the businessmen Artur Suqué and Mariano Puig, who died in April, and the president of South Korea, Moon Jae In, who is on an official visit to Spain from June 15 to 17, will accompany the monarch.

The visit of the monarch it will be the first of the three planned for Catalonia in just two weeks, since in addition to participating in the meeting of the Circle will return at the end of the month for the premiere of the Mobile World Congress and he will travel with Queen Letizia and her daughters to attend the awards ceremony of the Princess of Girona Foundation on July 1.

The Circle will also this year have the presence of the President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, which will close the conference on June 18, and with the participation of the President of the Generalitat, Pere Aragonès, which will open them on the 16th, so both leaders will not coincide.
