Former mayor sentenced for murder of journalist Miroslava Breach in Chihuahua

CHIHUAHUA, Chih.- Former mayor Hugo Amed Schultz Alcaraz was sentenced as Auxiliary participant in the murder of Chihuahuan journalist Miroslava Breach.

The former edile of the municipality of Chínipas, where Breach Velducea was originally from, will have to pay a sentence of eight years in prison, as well as the comprehensive reparation of the damage, which consists of financial compensation and a public apology out loud.

Miroslava Breach was murdered on March 23, 2017 in the city of Chihuahua, after a series of journalistic reports in which she aired the drug trafficking networks that exist in the mountain municipalities of this entity.

It was this June 15 when the hearing regarding the request for an abbreviated procedure generated by the FEADLE was held., in which the Prosecutor’s Office accused Schultz for the crime of homicide against Miroslava and asked the judge for a sentence of 8 years in prison, full reparation for the damage and a public apology from the sentenced person.

Hugo Schultz accepted the facts of the accusation and his criminal responsibility, as well as the sentence requested by the Prosecutor’s OfficeHowever, it is important to specify that in the case of an abbreviated procedure, there is the benefit of reducing the years in prison that the law establishes for the crime in question.

In addition to this, it was determined that Schultz participated as an aid to the material and intellectual authors of the homicide, this in exchange for the accused accepting his responsibility and participation, waiving his right to an oral trial and guaranteeing full reparation
