The Podemos militants who have attended this Sunday at the close of the fourth Citizen Assembly have ovation to former secretary general Pablo Iglesias with a prolonged applause and chants of “Yes we can.”

On the last day of the assembly process, the organization has issued a video with various interventions by Iglesias during his political career, from the irruption of the formation to the arrival of United We Can to the Government after the agreement with the PSOE, as well as his passage through the second Vice Presidency and his march to be a candidate in the Madrid elections.

Among those fragments, the farewell that Iglesias gave in the Congress of Deputies has been included, when he dedicated a memory for that generation of Spaniards who “played their lives” to return to Spain the “democracy snatches” during the Franco regime. “Because they were we are, because we are they will be,” he explained in his last parliamentary speech.

“He will always be the leader of Podemos”

Party member Antonia Pascual has gone up to the rostrum prepared for political speeches in the Paco de Lucía auditorium in Alcorcón and has read a letter dedicated to the former party leader.

Pascual has regretted that Iglesias has been the target of attacks from the extreme right but also of the attitude of the “forgetful left”, as well as certain media.

Pascual has highlighted his “immense generosity” and “dedication”, to proclaim that “He will always be the leader of Podemos” with which they fulfilled a “part of a dream” and managed to assault a “little piece of heaven”, forming part of the Government of the nation.

After emphasizing that Iglesias has “left the skin” For the defense of social rights, this militant wanted to pay tribute to the co-founder of Podemos and paraphrase his farewell phrase in Congress: “Because you were we are and because we are, they will be.”

Some words that have aroused long applause among the rank and file of Podemos present at the closing of the Assembly, who have chanted the party’s iconic slogan: “If possible”.
