World Donor Day was created in gratitude to people who, donating their own blood, help others, because millions of lives are saved every year thanks to donation – every second the inhabitants of our planet of different ages need a blood transfusion.

The number of participants in the donor action, as well as the people they saved, is growing in the world every year thanks to the World Donor Day. Many are already engaged in this noble cause constantly, at the same time slightly improving their financial situation.

Founded World Blood Donor Day 16 years ago at the World Health Assembly.

The decision to develop donation was unanimously supported by the International Federation of the Red Cross and Red Crescent and world donor organizations and blood transfusion societies. The goal of World Donor Day is to encourage people to donate blood voluntarily and free of charge.

Every year, World Donor Day is dedicated to a specific topic – the slogan of the holiday in 2021: “Donate blood, let life pulsate in the world.”

The main event of the World Donor Day in 2021 is organized by Italy – it will be held on June 14 in Rome.

The holiday is also intended to draw the attention of leaders of different countries to the problems in this area of ​​medicine.

The date of the holiday June 14 was not chosen by chance – 153 years ago, on this very day, the world famous Austrian immunologist Karl Landsteiner was born.

Landsteiner was the first to declare that human blood has a different composition and is divided into groups, and received the Nobel Prize for this discovery.

The holiday is celebrated by donors, doctors of specialized specializations, teachers and students, organizers of charity events, as well as patients with blood diseases.

Many states on World Donor Day hold conferences, meetings, charitable events, including mass donation of blood, in order to provide assistance to those who need it.

How much do you pay for donating blood?

For a single blood donation in the capital of Russia, donors are paid 4,080 rubles, and for plasma – 3,600 rubles.

They pay 5,760 rubles to donate platelets, and 6,000 rubles for erythrocytes.

Honorary blood donors are entitled to an annual payment – in 2021 it will be 24,000 rubles for donating blood (for four donations), and for plasma – 62,400 rubles (for 15 donations). This money is not taxed, and every year, due to inflation, the payment is indexed.

More than 1.5 million people in Russia need blood transfusions every year. The capital’s clinics are fully supplied with blood and its components, but it is necessary to replenish supplies regularly.
