Cologne –

1. FC Köln is pushing the squad planning for the new season. One thing is certain: After keeper David Schwänke (26) and Dejan Ljubicic (23) from Rapid Vienna, Mark Uth (29) will strengthen the 1. FC Köln squad. The bosses have already waved through the deal (EXPRESS reported). The reason why the transfer is not yet over on June 11 is Schalke 04.

  • Schalke 04 want to part with Mark Uth
  • Mark Uth is considered to be the preferred player for new coach Steffen Baumgart
  • 1. FC Köln excludes transfer payments

The Royal Blues are in a dilemma: They urgently need to get down from the exorbitant salary costs, Mark Uth with his basic salary of three million euros is not affordable for Schalke in the second division.

Then there are the hunting scenes after relegation, when Uth was chased around half the Veltins-Arena by angry fans.

No wonder that the attacker from Niederkassel signaled afterwards: I just want to leave.

Mark Uth and 1. FC Köln agree

His goal is also clear: The FC home-grown wants to go back to 1. FC Köln after his loan in spring 2020, agrees with those responsible.

The joint committee has already waved through the deal, although Uth is certainly not the kind of player 1. FC Köln wants to sign in the future.

At the beginning of the season, the professional will be 30, so an increase in value in the FC jersey is unlikely.

Schalke 04 and Mark Uth are playing poker for a severance payment

For this reason, too, there are clear conditions for the transfer: Uth has to forego half of his salary compared to the Bundesliga conditions in his Schalke contract, pocketing 1.8 million euros plus point bonuses.

And: 1. FC Köln categorically excludes a transfer payment.

Uth, however, asks for a concession from Royal Blue for his willingness to waive his salary on Schalke. His advisor Volker Struth is therefore negotiating with Schalke’s sports director Rouven Schröder.

According to EXPRESS information, it is about 500,000 euros, which the Gelsenkirchen company should make as a compensation payment for the termination of the contract. Schalke has refused so far.

At FC you are relaxed. Time is playing for Cologne, Uth’s promise is certain, the pressure is on Schalke. It can only drag on until the return is finally clear.
