Hermosillo.- Edgar Palomino Ayón, obtained the majority of votes in the election of municipal president of Cucurpe, Sonora, without being registered with the National Electoral Institute (INE) as an official candidate in the 2021 elections, without the support of political parties and with only 15 days of campaigning.
The 34-year-old Palomino tried to win the candidacy of Morena, the Labor Party (PT) and the Encuentro Solidario (PES), but when he was rejected by all three, he decided to launch a campaign on his own.
For this, he investigated and legally advised on the validity of the white box for unregistered candidates that appear on all electoral ballots, according to the statements he gave to local and national media. Seeing that this box had official validity, he decided to use it to his advantage.

The Sonoran’s strategy consisted of visiting house to house to ask for the support of citizens and explain to them how they could vote for him. To do this, he asked them to write their name in the blank box that appears at the bottom of the ballot that is intended to elect people who do not have their official registration as candidates.
With this action, Édgar Palomino managed to obtain 322 votes in his favor; while the four candidates registered for the election managed to add 324 victories among all.
The PAN standard-bearer for the mayor of Cucurpe, Manuel Francisco Villa, obtained 288 votes; the PRI Luz Imelda Ortega Gaxiola, 9 votes; the PT candidate, Erika Kassandra Sakuachi Quevedo, 3 votes; and the morenista María Trinidad Miranda, 24 votes.

“We had always voted for a party or crossed out, honestly, now it would be to write the name, I tell you, of each person, what I gave was just a piece of paper with my correct name, right? to the people who would like to support me ”, declared Édgar Palomino Ayón to the national media.
