Ukraine reaches compromise with UEFA on shirt slogan "difficult negotiations"

Finally a compromise in the fuss over Ukraine’s European Championship shirts. After negotiations with UEFA, the football association decided to change the slogan on the jersey.

The Football Federation of Ukraine (AUF) announced on Friday that it had reached a “compromise” with European Football Association UEFA to keep the slogan on the controversial European Championship shirt.

Russia filed a complaint with UEFA on Tuesday against the shirt bearing the Russia-annexed Crimea peninsula and patriotic slogans. The slogan ‘Glory to the Heroes!’ was deemed “clearly political” by UEFA “after a thorough analysis”. UEFA therefore wanted the slogan of the shirt to be removed.

The map was allowed to remain on the shirt, because it corresponds to the internationally recognized borders of the country.

“We still managed to reach a compromise with UEFA,” AUF president Andriï Pavelko wrote on Facebook. He confirmed that the slogan ‘Glory to the Heroes!’ will be part of a new logo on the shirt. The slogan would no longer be in its original position on the collar.
