The President of the Canary Islands, Angel Victor Torres, has ensured that the entire society of the archipelago has endorsed the pain of the mother of the two missing girls from Tenerife, after yesterday the body of Olivia, the six-year-old girl kidnapped, along with her one-year-old sister, by her father, whose body has been recovered from the sea, was found.
This was made clear this Friday after the celebration of an act as a show of support and solidarity with the family of the little ones. “Unfortunately, we meet again with a new case of sexist violence. The murder of six-year-old Olivia, kidnapped together with her one-year-old sister by their father, constitutes a severe blow to our values as a Canarian society, ”he said.
Here he pointed out that it is a sample of the “most cruel and twisted” violence, that which a man exerts on a woman “taking away” from her what she loves most; their daughters. “It is instrumental violence – he added – in which minors are used to cause women greater harm than if they attacked her directly.”
“It is a planned damage that falls on Beatriz –the mother– and that we make the whole of the Canary Islands ours with a pain that spreads throughout society and that forces us to give a response of greater unity and forcefulness. No abuser is a good parent, ”he said.
Torres recalled that so far this year a woman and a girl have been murdered in the islands, although he clarified that there are 97 women and seven minors who have died since 2003 in the archipelago due to sexist violence.
