The Mossos d’Esquadra are investigating the suicide of a 15-year-old minor, which took place on May 19 in Barcelona. The deceased was a student at the school Jess, Maria i Josep, from the Sant Andreu neighborhood. It so happens that the autonomous police are also investigating the suicide of a young man, 21, who ended his life in 2019 and had studied another center of the same congregation, Pare Manyanet de Les Corts.

The Sant Andreu center where the recently deceased 15-year-old was studying filed a file with the school’s computer scientist for letting the Mossos know about the finding of pedophile material on the hard drive of a priest’s personal computer, as revealed El Peridico de Catalunya. It is precisely this complaint that has allowed the agents to connect the two suicides and investigate them jointly.

The parents of the deceased minor have raised the case to the Catalan ombudsman and to the Barcelona Education Consortium to try to open an investigation against the center on the understanding that it did not act correctly to protect it.

Despite the parallel investigation of the two suicides, in the case of the minor, bullying is noted as a possible cause. The parents found an email with the subject “death” on the girl’s phone. It was inside a homework application that only teachers and their peers should have access to.

The agents are collecting information in permanent contact with the minor’s parents in order to prepare a report on these events. Once the agents, within the framework of their investigation, have prepared the police report, they will forward it to the court and the Prosecutor for Minors.

Regarding the case, the head of the regulatory compliance unit and spokesperson for the educational center, Antonio Ruiz, has assured Efe that the school does not record any incident or any tutoring action, nor is there a formal complaint on the part of the family, for what the news of the suicide has left us totally surprised. According to the spokesman, the director of the school has informed him that the only incident on record is a complaint that the mother of the child transferred to a teacher and of which there is no written record.
