The Tenerife Symphony takes up the great symphonism in its new season

The Cabildo presented this Thursday the 2021-2022 season from Tenerife Symphony Orchestra, which begins on September 10 and will mean the return to the great symphonism through fundamental works of the repertoire. More than fifty compositions of varied styles and periods will be performed in the 19 concerts of this cycle that will take place until June 17 and in which there will be room for directors and soloists of international significance. The details of this new season were announced by the president of the Cabildo de Tenerife, Pedro Martín; the Minister of Culture, Enrique Arriaga, and the honorary conductor of the orchestra, Víctor Pablo Pérez.

Pedro Martín stressed that “everything that has to do with our symphony orchestra is an event”, a formation that he defined as “one of the most precious treasures of our Cabildo, which has managed to resist almost like no other orchestra the onslaught of the COVID-19 “. In this sense, Martín pointed to the importance of presenting the new season not only because of “the effort to maintain that cultural hunch” by bringing live music to all citizens, but because “we have to get out of the pandemic and have good news, how is it that the Tenerife Symphony presents a new program ”.

The honorary director of the Cabildo’s musical training, Víctor Pablo Pérez, who described the main artistic and programmatic lines of the new season, indicated that “the Insular Music Board proposes a message of optimism, enthusiasm and hope in this new season. which will begin in the month of September ”.

On this programmatic approach, the new season of the Tenerife Symphony will feature the presence of fifteen prestigious and emerging batons. In addition to Víctor Pablo Pérez, who will lead three of the 19 programs, both in the opening concert and in the closing concert include the interventions of Christian Zacharias and Javier Perianes, respectively, as conductor and pianist. The list of soloists is completed by the violinists Ellinor D’Melon, Rosanne Philippens and Noa Wildschut, the cellists Anastasia Kobekina and Alban Gerhardt, the pianists Albert Guinovart and Evgeny Konnov -Winner of the María Canals Competition 2018-, in addition to the viola Maxim Rysanov, flute player Adam Walker, the mezzo soprano Catriona Morison and the Quiroga Quartet, a group known worldwide.

One more year, two proposals much loved by the public of the Tenerife Symphony complete the program. The choral concert, which this year will feature the participation of two of the most international singers from Tenerife, the soprano Raquel Lojendio and the tenor Airam Hernández, joined by the baritone Gabriel Bermúdez and the Coral Reyes Bartlet, directed by José Hijar Polo. This program, designed and conducted by Víctor Pablo Pérez, will be held at the beginning of April in Auditorio de Tenerife and – if circumstances permit – in the Cathedral of La Laguna. From Bach to Radiohead is the title of this season’s pop concert, under the direction of Michael Thomas, with tenor José Manuel Zapata, Rubén Rubio on viola da gamba and guitar, as well as guitarist Juan Francisco Padilla.

Apart from these 19 programs, the season of the Tenerife Symphony is completed with its presence at Ópera de Tenerife, the Canary Islands Music Festival or Fimucité. Likewise, it will offer an intense activity in the social and educational area with educational concerts for children and families, as well as its already habitual presence in hospitals or social health centers to bring symphonic music closer to the population of the entire Island.

The image of this new concert series maintains as its motto Always with you, defined by the commitment of a permanent closeness with the citizens. In this sense, the Tenerife Symphony will maintain all health prevention measures in the first section of the new season, with capacity and templates adapted to the new requirements, mandatory use of a mask and safety distance, although it will add breaks to concerts with an eye toward a return to normal conditions from January 2022.
