The mayor of Salamanca, Carlos García Carbayo, has stated that the Association of Hotels of Castilla y León sent a letter to the council “not exactly in a good tone” and, regarding the requests included in them, has ensured that the interest of the Government team It is “working for Salamanca” and that if that purpose “makes someone angry” then that he feels it “a lot” but that he “will continue to do so”.
In response to the association’s initial statement, in which he called for a reduction in municipal taxation and criticized the municipal initiative to offer ‘2×1’ on hotel nights in the city, García Carbayo has said: “It is an organization that has the title regional but here in Salamanca it did not arrive, from what we have been told, to five representatives and of them at this moment I do not know if there will be any“.
Regarding the criticism of the municipal aid of ‘2×1’ to encourage the arrival of tourism to the city, the hotels in the city are “very happy”, he said before reviewing measures to support the sector such as the deferment and splitting of payments, financial support for security measures against the spread of covid and other aid, reports Europa Press.
Again on the ‘2×1’, García Carbayo has pointed out that it is a measure that has been “an example and a national reference.” “Other places and provinces in Spain are copying us”, has added.
“Some of these hoteliers are from other provinces of the Community where there are people who do not go because they come to Salamanca, which has the two for one. So, well, well that has not been liked much in other places, but what are we going to do, we look first for the people of Salamanca “, he continued.
“If there are fewer people who then go to Valladolid or Burgos or León, and come to Salamanca, well, I will not be the one to scold my councilors. I will tell them, well you are doing what you have to do, what it means to work for Salamanca. And if this makes someone angry then we are very sorry, but it is our obligation, our responsibility and we are also going to continue doing it, “he concluded.
