Russia appreciated Ukraine’s declaration of war over Nord Stream 2

Member of the Federation Council Alexei Pushkov appreciated the statement by the head of the Ukrainian company Naftogaz, Yuriy Vitrenko, that the completion of the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline would increase the risk of a full-scale war. His words are quoted by the newspaper “Look”

Pushkov said that the Ukrainian side did not understand anything and did not learn anything. “Instead of negotiating with Russia on the preservation of part of the Ukrainian transit, they continue to play out the batch of threats and intimidation of Western countries with Nord Stream 2,” he said.

According to him, “stupid and irresponsible statements” are often heard from Kiev, the purpose of which is to aggravate the situation. He added that Vitrenko’s words are an example of the primitive pressure typical for Ukraine, which it used on the issue of building a gas pipeline.

“But Ukraine has already lost this battle, although the pressure from its side was strong. Now Kiev is seeking to take measures against the commissioning of the already built gas pipeline, ”the senator said.

Earlier, Yuriy Vitrenko said that the completion of the construction of the Nord Stream-2 gas pipeline could negatively affect the pro-Western attitude of many countries of Eastern Europe. The head of Naftogaz believes that the completion of the project will mean that “the pro-Russian position is being promoted at the expense of the West.” Worst of all, it increases the risk of a full-scale war, he said.

Initially, the launch of Nord Stream 2 was scheduled for late 2019, but due to US sanctions it had to be postponed several times. Russian President Vladimir Putin said in June that the completion of the second branch of the pipeline would take place in one and a half to two months.
