Roberto Mancini, after triumph over Turkey: ‘Matches are not won by chance’

Roberto Mancini, selector of Italy, expressed his satisfaction for the 0-3 win endorsed by his team to Turkey at its premiere in the Eurocup and he highlighted the merits of his players, for making a complicated game seem “simple”.

“We are proud to give satisfaction to the Italians who returned to the stadium after a long time. I was hoping to have a good night, but we were also clear that it would be difficult. We played an excellent game and gave them little. We had pressure and I am happy for the performance” assured Mancini at the post-game press conference of the Rome Olympic Stadium.

“We played an excellent game, we did not allow them to play. We had the merit of continuing to press, even though they were all behind,” he added.

Italy won by 0-3 a Turkey in the Olympic Stadium with an own goal of Merih Demiral and targets of Ciro Immobile Y Lorenzo Insigne.

“We are a team that plays well, we have improved a lot in these years. Matches are not won by chance. You have to play seriously, with the right attitude. I am convinced that we can continue to improve a lot,” said the Italian coach.

He denied that this triumph could make Italy a favorite team for the final triumph and limited himself to assuring that “it was important to start well”.
