According to media reports, China will bring to justice 27 officials after the tragedy with the death of athletes in the marathon.

TBILISI, 11 Jun – Sputnik. The punishment for the tragedy at the ultramarathon in China’s Gansu province will be incurred by 27 government officials, the People’s Daily reported.

As noted, during the check, the persons responsible for the tragic events at the sporting event were identified, including 27 officials – they will be brought to justice in accordance with the law, Sputnik Belarus reports.

The 100 km ultramarathon cross-country race began on the morning of May 22 near the town of Baiyin. Closer to lunchtime, on the high-mountainous section of the marathon, the weather changed dramatically – the wind intensified, hail and freezing rain began. As a result, some of the athletes left the race, another part went missing, rescuers were sent to search for them.

Of the 172 runners who participated in the marathon, 21 died, the body of the last athlete was found a day later.
