TBILISI, 11 Jun – Sputnik. The closure of the boarding school for children in Ninotsminda (Samtskhe-Javakheti region), which has recently been at the center of the scandal, is not planned, the lawyer of the Patriarchy of Georgia Edisher Karchava told reporters.

According to him, the process was completely taken under control, and the bulk of the case moved to Tbilisi. As Karchava explained, the relevant departments are doing everything to make the best decision for the children.

“The situation in Ninotsminda has been taken under full control. Joint work is underway to study the individual condition of each child, what is better for them – a family environment, temporarily stay in a boarding house or other forms … The closure of the boarding house, as such, is not planned. then the error, we will study them, evaluate them, and appropriate decisions will be made on all violations, “Karchava said.

The boarding school for children in Ninotsminda, which is under the patronage of the Patriarchate, attracted the attention of the general public and government structures after the Public Defender’s statement about cruelty against children in the boarding house and that its representatives were not allowed into the institution. Based on this statement, the Georgian Interior Ministry launched an investigation.

The Tbilisi City Court satisfied the claims of the Partnership for Human Rights (PHR) non-governmental organization, instructing the relevant government departments to immediately begin transferring children from the boarding house, based on the possible risks to the life and health of minors.

According to the latest data, the Agency for Assistance to Victims, Trafficking Victims and State Guardianship ensured the withdrawal of 22 minors from the boarding house, including children with disabilities. According to media reports, about 30 children remain in the institution by this time.
