“I am not an advocate of spending a lot of time in politics.” With these words, the parliamentary spokesman for United We Can, Pablo Echenique, outlined this Friday that he is considering not going on the training lists in the next general elections of 2023.

“It won’t take long for me to return to my profession,” Echenique confessed in an interview with Aragn Radio. “It is healthy in politics not to be around for long.”

Asked whether to go in the next general elections as head of the list of United We Can for Zaragoza, the current spokesman purple in Congress, he acknowledged not having made the decision yet or having raised the matter within the party, but he recalled that his intention was not to enter politics “to pursue a professional career.”

“I think that with this I am giving enough clues,” has slipped Echenique, who on an organic level is Secretary of the Podemos Program and is part of the candidacy of Ione Belarra for the IV Citizen Assembly that the party celebrates this weekend in Alcorcn to relieve Pablo Iglesias.

Former Vice President and Leader purple It is, in the eyes of Echenique, proof of that “be of identity” that Podemos has about the times that one must remain in politics: “It has achieved historical milestones in Spain (…)” and after spending seven years in politics ” he has gone home. “

According to the statutes of Podemos, the terms of the party are limited to 12 years. It could only be extended, in the case of both public and organic positions, if the militancy endorsed it in an exceptional way.

Internal restructuring

Since the resignation of Pablo Iglesias to continue in politics after the election results of 4-M in Madrid, Podemos has undergone various internal changes, either due to exits or due to restructuring prior to the Citizen Assembly.

Thus, on May 13, the until now secretary of the Podemos Organization, Alberto Rodríguez, announced that he would not be part of any candidacy willing to lead the party after Iglesias’ goodbye: “I think it’s time to close a stage,” he said about the “step aside” that you decide to take after being part of Podemos since its inception.

“This decision has nothing to do with the unjust police persecution that I suffer,” he stressed, referring to the judicial case he has open, for which the fiscal of the Supreme Court requests six months in prison. He announced that he would retain his seat as a deputy in Congress for the time being.

For his part, Julio Rodrguez, former Jemad and part of Pablo Iglesias’ list in the regional elections, announced on May 19 that he would not collect his minutes as a deputy of the Madrid Assembly. He is currently part of the candidacy of Ione Belarra to lead the party.

A similar movement was made by Isa Serra this week. The national co-spokesperson of Podemos announced that she would leave the Madrid Chamber to assume “other responsibilities” in the team led by Belarra with the aim of “taking this political project much further.”
