Martha Hildebrandt: the meaning of “Car”

According to the DRAE 2014, it comes from Hungarian car ‘carriage’ and is homonym of car ‘pig’ (from the interjection cochi, with which this animal is called). In the general language, car designates the car (in Peru it is preferred car), the four-wheeled animal-drawn carriage and a train car (id.). The expression child car with the meaning of ‘small vehicle shaped like a cradle that serves to transport a baby or an infant’. But in Peru it is simply preferred car with the latter use.
