Pau Donés’ family continues with its project to raise funds for cancer research
Marc, the singer’s brother, tells how this first year has been without him
“Living is urgent.” This is the “mantra” that he repeated Pau Donés and that now has been reflected in a project that he started and that his family has continued. Last June 9th was fulfilled one year after his death and many celebrities and friends of the artist joined with his t-shirts to raise money for cancer research. Marc, one of his little brothers, wanted to continue with his project and tell how the family is after the first year without the singer of Palo syrup.
Marc has always been one of the fundamental pillars in Pau’s life. The singer became the mother of his four brothers when he was only 16 years old, right after the tragic death of his mother. Throughout his life, before becoming one of the most recognized artists in Spain, the singer of Jarabe de Palo he mounted two bands with his brother Marc: Jay & Company Band and Dentures.
Marc wanted to continue with his brother’s legacy and make visible one of the phrases he repeated before he died, a powerful phrase that reminds us that “living is urgent”. “It’s a t-shirt project to fight cancer, it’s a joy,” says Donés’s brother in the interview that you can see in the video of this news. The purpose of the family is to “give continuity” to something that he started altruistically.. “For us it is still participating in what he wanted and it makes us feel very good,” he acknowledges.
This year has been “hard and complicated” for all his close circle. Marc Donés and the rest of his family cling to the “positivism” that the singer of Jarabe de Palo left them and that they try to preserve. “He did not intend to teach any lessons, but he empathized with many people and was an example,” he says.
Marc Donés, the great support of Pau Donés
His 16-year-old daughter SaraHe was one of the most important people in the singer’s life. In August 2018, she decided to step away from music to spend more time with her daughter. Two years later, in the midst of a pandemic and shortly before he died, the artist reappeared with his daughter Sara, who was dancing in what was his last video clip.
The truth is that little is known about his brothers. Marc and Pau began their first steps in music together with the creation of two bands, and shortly after they formed the odd company that to this day continues in the hands of the youngest of the brothers. Marc wanted to continue his legacy and that is why he raises funds for cancer research, which the artist most wanted.
