Manatee and fish die in rivers of Tabasco, ask to investigate

Villahermosa, Tab., Fishermen from the municipality of Macuspana requested the intervention of the Federal Attorney for Environmental Protection (Profepa) and the National Water Commission (Conagua) to investigate the causes of death of fish and manatees in the area of rivers and in the Sierra de Tabasco since 2018.

The residents indicated that between May and June at least seven manatees and devil fish have been found dead. They recalled that in three years about 200 mammals have died in that region.

They added that this situation has occurred in rivers and other bodies of water in the municipalities of Jonuta and Centla, as well as in rural areas of Macuspana.

The president of the Federation of Fishing Cooperatives of Macuspana, Dennis Muñoz Poteno, made a new call to Profepa and Conagua, because “we have not seen a response from the state government or the Federation.”
