The European Football Championship was officially opened with a musical spectacle on Friday evening shortly before the opening game between Italy and Turkey in the Stadio Olimpico in Rome. The leading role was played by the Italian tenor Andrea Bocelli, who performed live before the 16,000 spectators.

Then the official European Championship song We Are The People was played, made by the Dutch DJ Martin Garrix together with Bono and The Edge of the Irish band U2.
The match in group A between Italy and Turkey is led by Danny Makkelie. Wales and Switzerland are the other two countries in the group. They will be in action on Saturday.
The European Championship could not take place last year due to the corona crisis and was therefore moved to the summer of 2021. The tournament with 24 countries takes place across Europe.
