Kevin De Bruyne tells King Belgium that he misses the first European Championship match

“I still have a little pain, but I’m much better,” he told the king, who was led past all the players by captain Eden Hazard for a chat. “Occasionally I wear glasses because of the sun, but that’s not always possible.” Filip also asked if De Bruyne can play. “Hopefully the second match,” he replied. It brought relief to the king. “Fantastic, I’m very glad you’re back.”

During the final of the Champions League, two weeks ago, De Bruyne suffered a broken nose and eye socket. The 29-year-old midfielder had to undergo minor surgery last week. He joined the selection of national coach Roberto Martinez at the beginning of this week. De Bruyne is currently training separately from the group.
