Emerson Royal, Barça’s new signing, has played for two years at Betis until reaching Barcelona. But his struggle began much earlier, when he was a child living on the streets of Americana, a municipality in Sao Paulo. “What comes to mind when I see Emerson now is everything he fought for, everything he sought, being persevering and believing in himself”, ensures Tania Ferreira, Emerson’s mother.
“He never needed me to do anything for him, he always wanted life. When I couldn’t do it he did it and that was very good because he fought a lot and did not need anyone to achieve what he achieved “, says a proud mother who defines her son as “a very determined person since childhood.”
Emerson’s determination led him to one of the happiest moments of his life on June 2, 2021, when Barça announced that it was paying the 9 million necessary to keep it as their property. “I thought: OMG, is this for real? Is it a dream It’s not that I didn’t believe in my son’s potential, but in life and especially in football there are things that seem impossible ”.
Tania Ferreira admits that when she saw the ad “I cry a lot”. And he adds: “I laughed and then I cried again. I immediately thanked God. “
And how did Emerson experience it? Ferreira says that the young footballer “also cried” and that “the day he puts on that shirt, I’m sure he will do it again, he will not be able to suppress the emotion. He does not like to show his feelings very much but he will cry because he will be fulfilling his dream: to play for Barça. He dreamed it, he fought it and he has achieved it ”.
His desires to wear a blaugrana go back to his childhood days in Americana. “Mom, I want to be like Dani Alves and play for Barcelona”Emerson told his mother. “Think like that and you will get it,” she replied. “Emerson was always winger or steering wheel and in video games he took his idols, Neymar and Alves”, confesses Ferreira. And Emerson repeated: “Mom, I want to be like Alves and play for Barcelona.” Emerson’s dream came true.
