This is the current status as of June 11, 2021:

Update from June 11th: Delta variant probably more contagious, Bundestag, extended pandemic emergency, Austria no longer a risk area, incidence drops to 18.6, death rates continue to be high

  • First discovered in India According to analyzes, corona variant Delta is much more contagious than the alpha type discovered in Great Britain. The risk of infecting people in your own household is estimated at Delta 60 percent higher than at Alpha, the British public health authority announced on Friday. In addition, Delta should be able to evade the protective effect of the vaccines more than other variants – This is especially true after just one vaccination dose. Fully vaccinated people are, however, very well protected from the delta variant – also called B.1.617.2.
According to official information, the delta variant currently causes around nine out of ten corona infections in the United Kingdom. It let the long, very low seven-day incidence rise to just under 52 and could endanger the planned further corona easing. The authorities reported 8,125 cases on Friday highest number of new infections since the end of February. Because of the mutant, the federal government has again classified Great Britain as a virus variant area with extremely strict entry and quarantine rules.
  • The Bundestag has extended the “epidemic situation of national scope” because of the corona pandemic. It serves as the legal basis for corona regulations, for example on vaccinations and test costs. Speakers from the Union and the SPD had advertised this. Despite criticism, the Greens announced their approval. MPs from the FDP and AfD as well as the left turned against an extension. The vote was by name, there were 375 votes in favor, 218 against and 6 abstentions.
The established situation gives the federal government the right to issue ordinances directly without the consent of the Bundesrat, for example on tests, vaccinations, occupational safety or entry. Without an extension, the epidemic situation would expire at the end of June. It is now being extended for a maximum of three months.
  • Because of the falling number of corona infections On Sunday, June 13, the federal government will remove all of Austria as well as parts of Greece, Croatia and Switzerland from the list of risk areas. The Robert Koch Institute announced on Friday. Anyone coming to Germany from these areas by land will no longer have to observe any entry restrictions due to Corona in the future.
Also the vacation islands Madeira in Portugal and Cyprus as well as twelve other countries in the Balkans, Eastern Europe, Asia and North America are removed from the risk list, including the USA and Canada. In these two countries, however, there is still an entry ban for Germans who do not live there. In addition, the following countries are no longer risk areas as of Sunday: Armenia, Azerbaijan, Bosnia, Kosovo, Lebanon, Moldova, Montenegro, North Macedonia, Serbia and Ukraine. There are also two regions in Norway.
  • The Incidence and number of new infections is further declining. The health authorities in Germany have the Robert Koch Institute (RKI) within a day 2440 new corona infections reported. That is based on numbers from Friday morning (June 11th) which reflect the status of the RKI dashboard from 5 a.m. For comparison: a week ago the value was 3165 infections. The Seven-day incidence gave the RKI on Friday morning nationwide 18.6 on (previous day: 19.3; previous week: 29.7). Unfortunately, the positive trend in death rates is not there. Germany-wide were the information according to within 24 hours 102 new deaths in connection with a coronavirus infection. A week ago there were 86 dead. The nationwide Seven-day R-value was included according to the RKI situation report from Thursday evening 0,79 (Previous day: 0.74). This means that 100 infected people theoretically infect 79 more people. The R-value represents the occurrence of the infection 8 to 16 days ago. If it is below 1 for a longer period of time, the infection process subsides; if it is consistently higher, the number of cases increases.
