Chief epidemiologist of Georgia: peak of third wave of coronavirus passed

The epidemic situation is calming down throughout the country and all its parameters and indicators speak about it, the doctor said.

TBILISI, 11 Jun – Sputnik. We have passed the peak of the third wave of coronavirus and are now on a plateau and are declining, Amiran Gamkrelidze, head of the National Center for Disease Control and Public Health, told reporters.

Epidemiologists announced the beginning of the third wave of coronavirus on April 11.

“We started to decline. We have completely passed the peak of the third wave in the country and in Adjara. The epidemic situation is calming down throughout the country, and all its parameters and indicators speak about it,” Gamkrelidze said.

According to him, this does not give reason to calm down, as the pandemic continues.

“The way to end the pandemic is in vaccination. Our goal is to vaccinate 1.7 million people,” Gamkrelidze said.

He urged the population to continue wearing masks and actively vaccinating.

“If we follow the recommendations and get vaccinated, the likelihood of a fourth wave of coronavirus is low,” Gamkrelidze said.

The number of detected cases of coronavirus infection in Georgia over the past day has increased by 695. Since the beginning of the pandemic, 352,649 cases of infection have been identified in the country to date. 197 114 people were vaccinated.
