ONPE specifies that JEE annulled the Popular Force vote at a Lima table due to a material error in the minutes

The National Office of Electoral Processes (ONPE) clarified this Thursday that an electoral act where Popular Force obtained 138 votes and Peru Libre 48 was observed by material error. The minutes were reviewed by the JEE of Lima Centro 2, which resolved to annul the vote for the orange party for having registered a number of votes higher than the total number of citizens who voted at that table.

It was the table N ° 033563, located in the Center for Productive Technical Education (Cetpro) Piloto Femenino de Lima. According to the electoral act, there were also two blank votes and 27 invalid; recording a total of 215 votes cast out of a total of 300 eligible voters.

However, in Resolution No. 03282-2021-JEE-LIC2 / JNE, the electoral court reports that, after a collation, it was identified that the number of citizens who voted was only 85. It also highlighted that the votes in favor of Peru Libre plus the null, white and challenged total 77.

According to a citizen’s complaint, viralized on social networks, the ONPE it had omitted the Popular Force vote and only recognized the votes for Peru Libre. However, the entity denied that the action was arbitrary.

In its decision, the JEE Lima Centro 2 invoked the Regulations applicable to the minutes observed and indicated that “In the electoral act in which the votes cast in favor of a certain political organization exceeds the total number of citizens who voted, said vote is annulled (…), without prejudice to the votes recorded for the other political organizations”.

For this reason, the electoral court declared valid the minutes of the table No. 033563, but ordered the annulment of the vote in favor of Fuerza Popular and the figure was considered zero. Finally, the total number of invalid votes was considered to be 35.
