Dry law decreed in Atalaya due to increase in Covid-19 cases

Given the high cases of Covid19 in the Atalaya district, municipal authorities and the Ministry of Health, they imposed the dry law regime for this entire district, while some people in the area ask that the religious celebrations in the minor basilica be suspended as well.

Tomás Robles, mayor in Atalaya, met this Thursday in his office with the main representatives of the institutions involved in traceability in Veraguas, as well as the councilors and Governor Manuel Castillo, with Dr. Reyna Velarde, regional director of the Ministry of Health, members of the Police Nacional, Social Security Fund, for the high cases of contagion of covid 19, to find a way to minimize the cases that have exploded in this sector of Veraguas.

The authorities received an ovation of complaints and denunciations from the population not only residing in Atalaya, but also from other places in the province where they point out that there are sales and consumption of alcoholic beverages without the control of any authority. Currently there are 106 cases of Covid19 to date.

One of the main complaints of the population in Atalaya is that, from the beginning of the pandemic, there are many people who care little about life and health and disrespect the residents and sell liquor clandestinely anywhere.

They do social and family parties without biosecurity measures so it is unknown whether the offenders are punished or not, demand of the population to stop the opening of bars and canteens in Atalaya.

Regarding the decision of Tomás Robles, the watchtower mayor and the authorities of the Ministry of Health, to now decree the dry law as of this weekend, for some residents it is like the old saying, that “after the dead mare comes the corn chacara ”, since they had been suggested to adopt this measure since the beginning of the covid 19 pandemic.

Mayor Robles in Atalaya also said that the decree does not contemplate the closure of the minor basilica of Atalaya, due to the number of people who attend religious celebrations, but will dialogue with the bishop of Veracruz Audilio Aguilar, to control the activities of the masses and monitor compliance with biosafety measures.

The health and municipal authorities announced that Starting tomorrow, Friday, Saturday, the Atalaya health center will be the vaccination center and swabs for those interested in getting vaccinated.

For the Atalaya district, the authorities with the decree of the Dry Law, include serious penalties for offenders, as well as operations and reviews of businesses to prevent parties and other celebrations that involve crowds.
