The president of the PSD, Rui Rio, defended this Wednesday that the Government must have the courage to take stronger measures in the districts of Lisbon and Braga.

There is the problem of the councils that are shooting up, namely Lisbon and Braga, and then the Government must have the courage to take heavier measures, as is logical, otherwise this will shoot up”, said the PSD leader, reacting to the announcement that these two councils will not advance to the next phase of deconfinement.

Assuming that in Lisbon it can be “more complicated” toughen measures, Rui Rio stressed the need for national authorities to be “firm so as not to spoil everything that is done”, since in recent days the number of cases “It’s gotten worse than we could all have thought”.

Asked by journalists about the evolution of the pandemic situation in the country, Rui Rio said he did not want to “be very aggressive” and accuse the Government of incompetence, but affirmed, the aggravation of the situation in some municipalities, “Government competence is certainly not”.

Above all, what the Government has to be is prudent and very clear so that people know exactly what they have to do”, he said, considering that “At this moment, people are not clear about what they can and cannot do”.

In Rio’s understanding, they are necessary “very clear rules” and the country must not “to embark on a euphoric situation of saying that everything is resolved, because suddenly there are the celebrations that there was regarding football, which are linked to what is the degradation of numbers” cases of infection in the country.
