The Council of Ministers will approve the 'State Bicycle Strategy'

The Council of Ministers will approve the ‘State Bicycle Strategy’ on Tuesday. The Minister of Transport, Mobility and Urban Agenda, José Luis Ábalos, highlighted that the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan collects close to 3,000 million euros for the creation of low-emission zones, pedestrian routes and for the promotion of bicycle use, investments that “will help improve the quality of life of citizens” in towns and cities.

The minister has encouraged “to all the competent administrations to present proposals that support this active mobility” and thus they can be subsidized with European funds “because it is in their hands to draw that transforming sketch” of the urban physiognomy, “where the bicycle has the space that can really promote this change in habits among all”.

“We aspire that the State Strategy for the bicycle, after passing through the Council of Ministers, constitutes a turning point in the general and committed effort to promote the bicycle in Spain “, the minister insisted, adding that his department has already started “pedaling” by launching “different initiatives so that bicycles become a safe and accessible mobility option for all citizens.”

Plan against sexist violence

The Council of Ministers will approve this Tuesday the territorial distribution agreement of the budgetary credits for the development of the State Pact against gender violence, amounting to 100 million euros, as sources from the Ministry of Equality have informed Europa Press.

This measure comes weeks after the minister of the branch, Irene Montero, has declared her intention to make the signed pact permanent against this scourge through an initiative that, he explained, intends to bring to the Cortes “as soon as possible.”

The objective, explained Montero in the Senate, is not only to put the pact black on white, but also “expand the range of violence against women”, maintain “compliance with international standards“and even” recover “those issues in which initially there were no compromises in the agreement.

The Minister of Equality resorted precisely last month to the Pact against gender violence to seek solutions to the ‘black month’ that was registered in relation to sexist murders.
