The president of the PSD this Tuesday indirectly criticized the choice of the socialist Pedro Adão e Silva as executive commissioner of the 50th anniversary of the 25th of April, saying it was a “compensation” for the comments made in the media.

The PS has its ‘independent commentators’ spread across different channels to sell socialist propaganda and try to destroy opponents… but this little work comes at a price. It was Pedro Adão e Silva’s turn to receive compensation. We pay us; with our taxes”, criticized Rui Rio, in a post on his official Twitter account.

The publication of the PSD leader is associated with a piece by Porto Canal regarding the analysis of the choice of Pedro Adão e Silva for this position.

On May 27, the Council of Ministers approved the creation of a mission structure to organize the commemorations of the 50th anniversary of the 25th of April, which marks 2024, appointing Pedro Adão e Silva as executive commissioner.

Pedro Adão Silva is an assistant professor in the department of political science and public policy at ISCTE, director of the Doctorate in Public Policy at the same institution and a commentator in various media, such as TSF or Expresso.

In addition to the mission structure, a National Commission, chaired by the former President of the Republic, Ramalho Eanes, will work with the Presidency of the Republic, which will have the responsibility of “approving the official program of the commemorations and the activity reports”.

In commemoration of this year’s revolution, it was announced by the Prime Minister, António Costa, that the President of the Republic, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, and himself had agreed that the commemorations of the 50th anniversary of the 25th of April start on the 24th of March 2022 , when democracy exceeds the duration of the dictatorship by one day.

According to the executive, the mission structure will be composed of a General Council, appointed by the prime minister, which will have “the presence of individuals of recognized merit and activism in key dimensions in the construction of democracy, in addition to a Commission Executive who “is responsible for drawing up the official program for the celebrations, as well as for its implementation”.

“Pedro Adão e Silva Cardoso Pereira was appointed Executive Commissioner”, the Government said.

The objective of these commemorations, according to the Government, “is to perpetuate, regenerate and broaden the bond with the democratic regime, celebrating the democratic arc that began on April 25, 1974 and which developed throughout 1976 with the approval of the Constitution, the first presidential and regional legislative elections, which culminated in the municipal elections at the end of that same year”.
