¡Wong Kar-Wai returns! Today we can take a look at the promising teaser trailer from his new job, ‘Blossoms Shanghai’, his first television series. It is an advance intended for the Asian market so at the moment it does not have subtitles in Spanish or English. There is no specific release date, we only know that we will be able to see it in 2022.
I have not understood anything of what the voiceover says but I do not care because, beyond the fact that I am going to see anything that this filmmaker shoots, the video shows scenes that could have come out of some of Wong’s beautiful movies, maintains the stamp of author and promises another of his fascinating stories.
An epic walk through Shanghai from the 60s to the 90s
Recall that ‘Blossoms Shanghai’ is based on the novel ‘Blossoms’ by Jin Yu Cheng; Wong Kar-Wai He is the creator and producer of the series and has directed the first episode. The filmmaker revealed that the project is a tribute to his hometown that goes through the most intriguing stages of its recent history, from the 60s to the 90s.
At first, Wong spoke of this adaptation as a film that would continue the events of two of his last feature films, ‘Desiring to love’ and ‘2046’ (it would also be a sequel to ‘Wild Days’, not mentioned by the director but where it already appeared the character of Tony Leung), however, the project was changed until it became a television series, whose script was signed by Qin Wen. Apparently, Wong has not abandoned the idea of making a film with the same story and we could see it one day.
‘Blossoms Shanghai’ centers on Mr. Bao, an enigmatic millionaire played by Hu Ge; The plot follows his journey of personal reinvention from a young opportunist with a troubled past to one of the most important people in Shanghai. Ma Yili, Kris Wu, and Xin Zhilei play other main characters.
