Gelsenkirchen –

That has never happened in football Germany: Of all things, the crisis-ridden FC Schalke 04 is facing a record deal. Not the professional team, but the e-sports department could make it ring tremendously in the clammy cash register of the royal blues. This became known on Friday, June 4th.

  • Schalke before a German record deal
  • E-sports department could bring Schalke 30 million euros
  • 22 million euros profit thanks to the e-sports department at Schalke

FC Schalke 04, who has just been relegated from the Bundesliga and is financially badly hit, can use every euro.

Help could now come from a department that actually has little to do with professional business.

Because the Royal Blues are thinking of selling their starting place in the European League of Legends league “LEC”. And that could be the most important deal this summer for the clammy Revier club.

Because as the “Bild” reports, Schalke could collect a whopping 30 million euros for the license. An investor should be ready to pay this incredible sum in order to get the coveted starting place.

Since the Royal Blues bought the starting place in the franchise league, in which only ten teams are represented, for eight million in 2019, a profit of 22 million euros would jump out for the future second division club.

According to Tim Reichert, who is responsible for the strategic direction of the esports department at S04, the decision has not yet been made. Reichert told the dpa news agency on Friday that this should only happen in the next two weeks.

Felix “Abbedagge” Braun, here in the Schalker Gaming House in December 2019, moved from Schalke to a team in the North American League of Legends “LCS” in the spring for around one million euros.

Schalke has consolidated itself in the esports scene in recent years. Schalke got into professional e-sports mainly on the initiative of still marketing director Alexander Jobst (47, stops at the end of June) and ex-supervisory board boss Clemens Tönnies (65).

It was not until April 2021 that Schalke sold Felix “Abbedagge” Braun, one of their strongest players, to a team from the North American League of Legends “LCS” for around one million euros. (cho)
