A sharp surge in infection, according to experts, is no longer expected in the fall, since by this time more than 30% of the population will be vaccinated

TBILISI, June 4 – Sputnik. A new wave of coronavirus in Georgia is not expected in the fall, since the number of vaccinated population by that time will be more than 30%, said Sputnik Georgia, head of the National Technical Group of Immunization Consultants, Medical Director of the Tbilisi Children’s Central Hospital. Iashvili Ivane Chkhaidze.

According to the latest data, more than 160 thousand people have received the coronavirus vaccine in Georgia. An average of 5-6 thousand people are vaccinated per day.

“As for the new wave in the fall, by this time more than 30% of the population will be vaccinated. Even if we talk about October-November, when the cold snap, when an outbreak of viral infections is expected, at this time the vaccination rate will definitely be more than 40%. We hope on this, because every day 4-5 thousand people are vaccinated, “Chkhaidze said.

At the same time, Chkhaidze believes that the relaxation of restrictions and the tourist season can cause a surge in infection, but in any case, the number of infected people will be several times less than in the summer of 2020.

“We will no longer have five thousand infected people a day,” he stressed.

Epidemiologists believe that in the third quarter there will be a fairly large supply of vaccines in Georgia, so the process will go on more intensively, about 15-16 thousand people will be vaccinated per day. The list of vaccines will also expand.

Sinopharm is expected to be delivered in the summer – half a million doses. Also in the third quarter, the country will receive a million doses of Pfizer, 700,000 doses of Novavax and about 130,000 Johnson & Johnson.

The number of detected cases of coronavirus infection in Georgia over the past day increased by 779. 23 people died. According to Chkhaidze, the country is still in the phase of the third wave and only in the coming weeks, months, one can hope that the intensity of infection will decline.
