President, Alberto Fernandez (Frente de Todos), promulgated national law 27,631 today, which modifies for the only time the date of the open, simultaneous and mandatory primaries (PASO) and the general elections, within the framework of the measures adopted by the health emergency due to the pandemic of coronavirus.

The regulation, which was published in the Official Gazette of the Nation, establishes to postpone the primary and general elections for five weeks, based on the changes approved by the National Congress.

Thus, the PASO will be held on September 12; the general, on November 14.

The intention of the change of dates proposed by the National Executive aims to give continuity for five more weeks to the national vaccination plan before the electoral appointment, according to the official argument.

The project was agreed between the heads of the political blocs of the Frente de Todos and of different sectors of the opposition, based on the conversations led by the Minister of the Interior, Eduardo de Pedro; the president of the Chamber of Deputies, Sergio Massa; and the secretary of Political Affairs, Patricia Garcia Blanco.

In the ruling party, they highlighted that the measure “received broad support in the Chamber of Deputies and unanimous support in the Chamber of Senators.”

In addition, the portfolio led by De Pedro and the National Electoral Chamber drew up a sanitary regulation protocol for the electoral days that includes the expansion of almost 30% of the electoral establishments, which will go from 15,000 to 19,000 to reduce the flow of people , with a maximum of eight tables for each establishment.
