Two members of the Republican Party immediately announced their withdrawal from it – MP Tamar Kordzaya and one of the founders and leaders of the party Levan Berdzenishvili

TBILISI, 4 Jun – Sputnik… Levan Berdzenishvili, one of the founders and leaders of the Republican Party of Georgia, left it.

Berdzenishvili said the reason for this was the decision of the current chairman of the Republican Party, Khatuna Samnidze, to unite into a new parliamentary faction called the “Charles Michel Reform Group”. Berdzenishvili considers this decision to be erroneous.

“I confirm my resignation from the party. The faction, which is created in parliament and whose chairman should be Khatuna Samnidze, I do not consider the right decision for the Republican Party. However, I ended up in the minority. The party made a different decision,” Berdzenishvili said.

Today it became known that MP Tamar Kordzaya left the ranks of the Republican Party for the same reason. She had been in the party for six years. Kordzaya and Samnidze got into the tenth parliament on the list of the “National Movement – Strength in Unity” bloc.

Kordzaia will continue his parliamentary activities as an independent deputy.

The opposition faction “Charles Michel Reform Group” registered in the Georgian parliament on Thursday. It includes representatives of three political parties – “Strategy of Agmashenebeli”, “Girchi – More Freedom”, the Republican Party and independent deputies.

The Republican Party is considered one of the oldest parties in Georgia. It was founded by brothers Berdenishvili Levan and David in 1978.
