Putin answered the question about the possibilities of the United States to stop the "Nord Stream-2"

Nord Stream 2 should be implemented because it is an economically viable project that meets the interests of consumers in Europe, said Russian President Vladimir Putin. The broadcast of the plenary session is available on the website of the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF).

The president made this thesis when answering the SPIEF question about whether the possibility of stopping work on the gas pipeline due to US pressure remains.

“I think he (Nord Stream 2 – approx. “Lenta.ru”) must be implemented, especially when the new American administration says it wants to build good relations with its partners in Europe. How can you build good relationships with partners and do not care about their interests? Some kind of nonsense, ”Putin said.

The route along the bottom of the Baltic from Russia to Germany is much shorter than through European countries, and also allows avoiding political risks, the head of state emphasized.

He also noted that supplies via Nord Stream 2 will be more environmentally friendly than American liquefied gas. The President pointed to the illogical position of German environmentalists who were trying to stop the construction of the gas pipeline.

Putin earlier announced that the laying of the first line of Nord Stream 2 had already been completed, and the second line would be completed in the coming months. The gas pipeline was planned to be launched back in 2019, but the United States prevented the implementation of the project. On June 3, Deputy Prime Minister Aleksandr Novak announced that there was still a 100-kilometer section to be completed.
