The project “Together we can – cooperation in urgent situations between Georgia and Armenia” is aimed at cooperation and coordination of actions between the health departments of the two countries in extreme conditions

TBILISI, June 4 – Sputnik. Georgia and Armenia will cooperate in urgent situations and create special medical groups ready to provide assistance during disasters, the Georgian Ministry of Health reports.

“Together we can – cooperation in urgent situations between Georgia and Armenia” is a new project of the health ministries of the two countries aimed at improving the disaster risk management system.

The project aims to develop opportunities and create mechanisms for cross-border cooperation. The corresponding memorandum was signed by the Ministries of Health of Georgia and Armenia, as well as the Arbeiter-Samariter-Bund charitable organization.

According to Deputy Minister of Health Georgy Tsotskolauri, the project is important for the entire region, especially in the context of the coronavirus pandemic.

“I think that an extremely important project for the region has begun. The general pandemic and the increasing frequency of natural disasters have shown that the preparedness of countries for disasters is becoming an increasingly urgent issue. I hope that with the support of international partners, together with our Armenian colleagues, we will be able to create effective mechanisms for joint disaster response, “Tsotskolauri said.

Within the framework of the project, for the first time between Georgia and Armenia, emergency medical teams will be formed, which will be provided with all the necessary resources.

According to the director of the Center for the Coordination of Emergency Situations and Emergency Aid Alexander Kalandia, it is especially important to promote the formation of emergency medical teams in Georgia and Armenia with WHO accreditation. These teams will be fully resourced and competent to respond effectively to emergencies.

“The creation of such groups is even more urgent today – in the face of a global pandemic,” Kalandia said.

The Memorandum of Cooperation was signed by Deputy Minister of Health of Georgia Georgy Tsotskolauri, First Deputy Minister of Health of Armenia Lena Nanushyan and Director of the organization “Arbeiter-Samariter-Bund” Dimitrie Todorovich.
