Around a hundred people from Murcia and Castilla-La Mancha have been affected by a locksmith company that is charging abusive prices for opening doors in such everyday cases as you forget the keys inside.
Pablo couldn’t imagine that forgetting his keys at home would be a nightmare. At first, everything was easy, later, it was impossible to know the rates: “At all times (the locksmith) told me ‘I don’t know, don’t worry, this is cheap.” Once the door is open, the answers arrive: he began to add until the sum reached 500 euros.
Cristina’s mother is another of those affected, first they asked her for 250 euros: “My mother was crying and very nervous, she wanted the man of the house to leave.” Added to the lack of information is the threatening attitude.
On January 3, the press echoed a case that also happened in the Region of Murcia, specifically in the town of Cartagena, where a locksmith charged a woman 1.077 euros for opening the door of his house on New Year’s Eve.
“A man gets into your house, they are complicated situations to manage,” says the lawyer Rodrigo well. “I did not understand how you could pay 700 euros to open a door, but when you have 75 or 80 testimonies and they all agree …”, reflects the lawyer.
The lack of regulations for the sector in many autonomous communities increases the lack of protection. “In Murcia there is freedom of prices and what is happening is an incompliance with information obligations “, adds Pozo. That is the trump card of the class action lawsuit that has already been launched.
