At the moment, The Simpson It is considered one of the most important series in the history of international television. But its beginnings, more than 30 years ago, they weren’t easy at all.

As collected Gizmodo, The Simpson were to be an independent series that would premiere in the spring of 1989, but its pilot episode it was so disastrous that its creators had to convince the Fox network to release it six months later.

The episode was created in 1988 and was included on the season one DVD, but is also available on YouTube.

The plot of the episode is the following: Marge, despised by Homer, decides to call a therapist who has a radio program. Homer hears the call and decides to make it up to Marge by taking her to dinner at a fancy restaurant. The children, Bart, Lisa and Maggie are left in the care of a babysitter who she is actually a criminal.

This episode aired for the first time on May 13, 1990, but not as a pilot, but as the closing of the first season, and 70% redone compared to the original pilot.

The animation was of such low quality that the producer, James L. Brooks, said: “This is bullshit.” It was possible to take advantage of 30% of the animations. The rest was redone, softening the drawings and creating entire sequences.

The delay caused the series to premiere at Christmas, so instead of this the Christmas episode in which the Simpson family gets their dog was used, Santa’s Little Helper.
