Meteorological madness in Spain: from storms to infernal heat with almost 40 degrees

The last weekend of May will have an “uncertain” meteorology, typical of spring, with instability marked by the evolution clouds that in the afternoon will leave showers and storms, although temperatures will be more typical of summer, since in much of the country it will exceed 30 degrees Celsius (ºC), as reported by the State Meteorological Agency (AEMET).

The AEMET spokesperson, Rubén del Campo, explained that the weekend will be characterized by skies that in general will be slightly cloudy or with high clouds in the morning but from noon, clouds of diurnal evolution will begin to grow and that by the afternoon will lead to showers, in occasions accompanied by storms, which will be more likely in mountain areas and their immediate areas. However, it specifies that in general there will be scattered showers and that they may mainly affect the northeast of the Peninsula on Saturday and Sunday.

The most intense are expected in the Iberian System and in the surroundings of the Pyrenees, but they cannot be ruled out in other areas of the Peninsula. Del Campo adds that throughout the weekend, especially in the south, there will be dust in suspension and with regard to temperatures, he stressed that they will be “higher than usual” for this time of year and will even exceed 35ºC in the Guadalquivir valley..

“Heat, therefore, already in the southern half,” insists the spokesman who anticipates that next week this trend of relative instability of some atmospheric instability will continue and in which clouds of diurnal evolution will again grow from noon that in the afternoon will leave rains in the interior of the peninsula and in the Balearic Islands, with showers accompanied by scattered storms, especially in mountain areas.

However, the spokesman states that it is “difficult” to add exactly where they are going to fall “as is usual in this type of stormy phenomena”, although he does warn that they can be “locally strong”.

The situation will continue for a good part of the week and temperatures will remain high until Tuesday, especially in the southern half, where it will exceed 35ºC again in the Guadalquivir valley. In general, he observes that “the most probable thing” is that the first week of June will have temperatures higher than the usual ones for the time of year in much of the country.

Meteorologist Samuel Biener of Meteored, for his part, he raises the prediction: “On Sunday there will be some cold air in height that will enter from the northeast, where temperatures will drop slightly. In the rest they will not change or could even rise a little more. So much so, that in Córdoba they could reach 40º C. Regarding rainfall, pay attention to the Maestrazgo and the northeast of Catalonia, since the storms will be of a certain entity “.

On Monday, showers may affect the northeast, more likely and more intense in the east of the Iberian system and the Pyrenees, and Tuesday to much of the interior, somewhat more likely in the environments of the mountain systems of the northern and eastern halves and the central area. As for the wind, he expects Levante to blow in the Strait and in the Northern part of the Canary Islands and on the Galician coast, they will also blow from the north and with strong intervals.

As of Wednesday, the AEMET predicts that, although atmospheric uncertainty increases, in the extreme north of the peninsula, rainfall will be likely, which will be more intense and with a storm in the mountains, while in the rest of the country spring weather will follow with clouds of evolution in the interior of the Peninsula, where scattered showers will continue to fall accompanied by occasional storms, which will be somewhat more likely in the environments of the mountain systems of the northern third and the Iberian system.
