Oh white! Germany has the ESC 2021 mighty embarrassed. But as if that were a disappointing result not bad enough, of all things ESC-Participant Jendrik something that made things worse.

There was great hope that Jendrik at the ESC 2021 shines and finally brings the trophy back to Germany. But unfortunately nothing came of it. On the contrary: At the end of the evening, the participant went home with a total of three points – and now defends himself against the criticism with a middle finger.

And not only that. Because it gets worse: Because now it comes out that Jendrik the ESC 2021 never really wanted to win. Did the jury send the wrong singer into the race?

These are the ESC winners of the past few years:

  • 2021: Moonlight with “Zitti e buoni” (Italy)
  • 2019: Duncan Laurence with “Arcade” (Netherlands)
  • 2018: Netta with “Toy” (Israel)
  • 2017: Salvador Sobral with „Love for both“ (Portugal)
  • 2016: Jamala with “1944” (Ukraine)
  • 2015: Måns Zelmerlöw with “Heroes” (Sweden)
  • 2014: Conchita Wurst with “Rise Like a Phoenix” (Austria)
  • 2013: Emmelie de Forest with “Only Teardrops” (Denmark)
  • 2012: Loreen with “Euphoria” (Sweden)
  • 2011: Ell & Nikki with “Running Scared” (Azerbaijan)
  • 2010: Lena with “Satellite” (Germany)

How do you deal with such a massive bankruptcy? Some shed a few tears of disappointment, others get grumpy. ESC participant Jendrik, in turn, decides to send a huge middle finger to all critics. Together with the dancer, who at ESC 2021 appeared next to him in an oversized hand costume, he has a clear photo taken of himself after the award ceremony.

Only the middle finger of the XXL hand is stretched up. Jendrik sits with his back to the camera – out of defiance or sheer ignorance? In his song, the 26-year-old finally sang that he had no time for haters: “I don’t feel any hatred. I only feel pity. “

ESC 2021: Jendrik never wanted to win – Viewers are pissed off

About the provocative snapshot, Jendrik writes on Instagram: “To be honest, I already thought that this could happen, but a good placement was never the reason why I wanted to take part in the ESC – but you all know that – I wanted to take part, to experience this event personally – the celebration of music, cultures and community. “

So Jendrik didn’t take part to emerge as the winner of the evening, but simply to have fun and get a positive message across. Not a bad approach, but it’s obvious that you won’t win any prizes with it.

For his honest statement, Jendrik receives plenty of headwind. The viewers have absolutely no understanding for such an attitude, as the Instagram comments show:

  • “Then it’s better to do without that than something.”
  • “With the goal of not winning, you have to explain that to people first.”
  • “The ESC is not an experience event, but a competition!”

Phew, it seems like it won’t be easy for Jendrik to forget the ESC bankruptcy.
