The Government asked Conmebol to apply a "strict protocol" in the America's Cup

The Copa América is coming in the middle of the second wave of coronavirus infections and they begin to take the precautions of the case. The national government asked Conmebol for a strict protocol and high and permanent supervision.

“We met yesterday with the president of Conmebol, Alejandro Dominguez, and it was a good reunion. Argentina has a commitment to organize part of the Cup and last year it was postponed and this year it had to be done. What we proposed were very strict protocols, of high and permanent supervision, “he explained. Santiago Cafiero, chief of staff.

Sanitary conditions

President Alberto Fernandez yesterday received the head of Conmebol at the residence of Olivos. In that meeting, he gave him a strict sanitary protocol that must be fulfilled for the Copa América 2021 to be played in the country.

Fernández and Domínguez evaluated the organizational and logistical aspects -with the eventual fitting out of additional venues, such as the Estudiantes de La Plata and Vélez Sarsfield stadiums- and everything concerning health protocols.

As Cafiero specified today, the Conmebol authorities took those protocols to analyze them. In that protocol, there are issues related to “greatly reducing the presence of the people who are going to come” and, in that sense, Cafiero said that Conmebol “have to talk with the delegations to see if they can comply with that.”

“As it is a Cup that is played in different venues in Argentina, we must work with the governors and local authorities to see if they are in a position to meet the requirements that we are asking for and we must see the health situation of each province,” he said. also Cafiero.

One month of play

The tournament will be played between June 13 and July 10, and Colombia will not share the organization with Argentina, as planned, after announcing its desertion last week due to the prevailing situation in that country. Group A is made up of Argentina, Bolivia, Chile, Paraguay and Uruguay, while Group B is made up of Brazil, Colombia, Ecuador, Peru and Venezuela.
