In this regard, it is important to make two things clear: that at first glance it is impossible not to make the comparison with Huawei’s Matebook D14 (understandable by the link that existed until recently between the two companies), a line that in turn is “inspired ”In Apple’s minimalist designs.
However, when we see more calmly this new Honor MagicBook 14 we find several peculiarities that are very appreciated. What stands out, without a doubt, is its aluminum construction, which ensures resistance. I tried the Space Gray color which gives it a pretty elegant touch.
The brand’s logo is in the central area, towards the left edge of the lid, embossed with a bright blue color. In the same way, the edge of the lid features a diamond-cut bevel -color Azure Blue- that adds a distinctive seal.
The MagicBook 14 it is quite thin and light, which invites it to be carried from one place to another. When we open it we find the impressive screen (occupies 84% of the space), with extremely reduced borders.
Its keyboard is qwerty in Spanish, with backlighting, very comfortable and quite silent. As we have already seen in models from other brands, this MagicBook 14 from Honor includes the webcam inside the keyboard, exactly between the F6 and F7 keys. On the upper right corner we have the power button, which works at the same time as a fingerprint scanner.
As for connectors, it does not have all, but it brings the bare minimum: on the left we have a USB-C port that also serves to connect the 65W adapter, a USB-A port and an HDMI port. On the right side we have another USB-A port and the input for the headphones. On the front you can identify the two microphones for video calls. The vents and speakers are located on the bottom side.
The MagicBook of Honor it is quite an efficient computer for the user who is looking for versatility and, above all, productivity.
Its screen shows bright and vivid colors, but it also has various treatments that protect vision, so that decreases the potential for eye damage for the constant hours in front of the screen. Also, it responds very well under light.
This model brings an 11th generation Intel Core i5 processor, with integrated Iris X graphics. This enables good performance, especially for the most common tasks related to teleworking.
What’s more, It has 8GB of RAM and 512GB of SSD storage. Looking at this configuration, perhaps it might seem a bit short to some, especially if we take into account that the RAM cannot be expanded. However, Honor is aware of this and therefore has a high-performance function available [presionando la tecla Fn+P] that allows you to take advantage of the double memory channel to increase the speed of data transfer.
This computer also supports Wi-Fi 6Therefore, if you have a router that uses this technology, the delay or ‘lag’ in the connection is substantially reduced.
But we must be clear, the MagicBook 14 from Honor it has its limitations. It is not a computer that can be demanding a lot with heavy work. But, for example, I was able to render a video in 1080p, with a few layers and 7 minutes long in just under that time. It seems to me a reasonable time for a computer that the graphic work is done with an integrated card. In the same way, Simpler photo edits and audio recordings can be done without any hassle.
The most controversial part of the MagicBook 14 is its camera. Its location on the keyboard makes the shot, by default go downhill, focusing on the lower part of the face, privileging in the image the double chin of the person speaking. However, that can be solved by better accommodating yourself in front of the camera. What’s more, the quality of this increases if we complement it with a light source. For some, the alternative will be to get (or reuse) an external camera. Installation is simple. Of course: let’s bear in mind that having a pop-up camera, which is stored on the keyboard, is a good security measure. As for the audio for video calls, the quality is quite good so it is not essential to have an external microphone.
Other things against or that, in any case, Honor has to consider: versions with higher RAM (16 GB) and bringing models with the option of AMD processors to the local market.
Regarding its autonomy, I could be with the MagicBook working without problems during a day of about seven hours without problems. Indeed, it has a fast charge that in about 30 minutes has the battery recharged by 50%. It takes about an hour and a half to fully charge your 56Wh battery.
I forgot: its power button has a fingerprint reader, which allows you to turn it on or wake it up by placing your finger on the button. Biometric recognition makes you forget to constantly enter the password.
The MagicBook 14 (2021) from Honor It is a very good personal computer for those looking for a versatile machine, which accommodates most of the requirements of teleworking and virtual classes typical of these days., and above all that during its launch week it arrives with a reduced price and with a bundle very attractive (S/3.499, and includes a Honor Band 6 and ones Honor TWS X1).
Undoubtedly, the overall offer of Honor in Peru it is shaping up to be very interesting. We will be attentive to their next releases.
